Hungary Striker Barnabas Varga Stable in Hospital After Collision with Scotland

Varga Suffers Fractured Cheekbone

Hungary striker Barnabas Varga is stable in hospital after being carried off on a stretcher following a mid-air clash with Scotland's Kieran Tierney in the second half of the Group D match in the Euro 2024 UEFA European Championship.

Varga was stretchered off in the 69th minute after suffering a blow to the face and was taken to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a fractured cheekbone. The Magyar Football Federation has confirmed that he is in stable condition and is expected to be released from the hospital later on Saturday.

The incident occurred when Varga jumped for a header with Tierney. The two players collided in mid-air, with Varga landing awkwardly on his face. The referee blew the whistle for a foul and Scotland had a free-kick.

The injury is a blow to Hungary, who are already without several key players due to injury.

Tierney Escapes Punishment

Despite the severe injury to Varga, Scotland defender Tierney escaped punishment for the challenge. The referee did not give a card for the foul and the VAR team did not recommend a review of the incident.

This has angered some Hungary fans, who believe that Tierney should have been sent off.

Hungary's Tournament Hopes in Jeopardy

Varga's injury is a major blow to Hungary's hopes of reaching the knockout stages of Euro 2024. The team is already in a tough group, which also includes Germany, Portugal, and France.

Without Varga, Hungary will be missing one of their most dangerous attacking players. He has scored three goals in his last five matches for the national team.

Hungary will now need to rely on other players to step up and fill the void left by Varga. They will need to perform well in their remaining two group matches, against Germany and Portugal, if they want to have any chance of reaching the knockout stages.
